SHORT STORY: The Cold Coal

‘Hello beautiful, I want to take you out to lunch’ Doctor Adekunle tells his wife of 5 years. He soliloquises ‘How do I let my wife know…’ Mrs Adekunle responds tentatively ‘Darling, I am really surprised by this gesture… it’s been a week since you took me out I hope all is well? His husband kept mute and she couldn’t stand to get her husband mad so she simply told him ‘I’ll get ready in a bit’. She didn’t let her excitement cloud her judgment. On getting to one of the most exquisite french restaurants on Admiralty way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, Nigeria, the skyline was lit with the beauty enhanced by the moon and the stars. The air was full of freshness as young lovers came out to have a wonderful time in a city that never sleeps. The moment they stepped into ‘Le Chateau’, all Doctor Adekunle could do was to keep taking drinks at though his tummy is the storage unit for Nigeria Breweries. His wife was awestruck and embarrassed at the rate of her husband’s incessant drinking.
